    What is Synchronized Swimming?

Swimming with synchronized movements: a sport in which swimmers perform coordinated movements in time to music in the manner of a dance. Synchronized swimming is a hybrid form of swimming, dance and gymnastics, consisting of swimmers (either solos, duets, or teams) performing a synchronized routine of elaborate moves in the water, accompanied by music. Synchronized swimming demands advanced water skills, and requires great strength, endurance, flexibility, grace, artistry and precise timing, as well as exceptional breath control when upside down underwater. Olympic and World Championship competition is not open to men, but other international and national competitions allow male competitors. Both USA Synchro and Synchro Canada allow men to compete with women. Competitors show off their strength, flexibility, and aerobic endurance required to perform difficult routines. Swimmers perform two routines for the judges, one technical and one free as well as age group routines and figures. Synchronized Swimming is governed internationally by FINA (Federation Internationale de Nation.)

This October the PTX sister master teams comprised of a 20-29 team  and a 40-49 team descended on Coral Springs, Florida with great  expectations. The 20-29 team, comprised of Jill Girardot, LeeAnne  Bounds, Medley Butterfield, Deb Swan, Jessica Jenkins, and Vanessa  Mosharaf, swam "Mexico" for the free routine and "Phantom of the  Opera" for tech. Stunning performances by this team earned them a  2nd place silver medal, even with only a 6 member team. The team had  a tremendously fun time at the beach as well!  Many of the ladies on  this team are our coaches and former PTX athletes who still can  "bring it on"!

Our newest addition, the 40-49 master team, comprised of Nicole  Austin, Judy Erickson, Marian Flinchbaugh, and Laura Barlow, swam to  "ABBA" for the free routine and "Disco" for tech.  All of these  ladies had just begun their synchro careers this year and for  rookies, performed with the grace and style expected by PTX.  This  team placed 8th in their division and were so so proud to stand on  the podium and then wear their pink ribbons on the trip home!  Of  course, the beach was an outing for this team as well.  Fort  Lauderdale is beautiful

And kudos to the Coral Springs Aquacades for a meet well run!  And  the entire group of entered athletes from all around the country and  Canada were most gracious, kind, and fun to be around.
